At a "Culture Saturday" event held at the community center in Tira, Dr. Alon Liel, a member of the council of the "All Its Citizens" party, spoke on the topic of "Historical Reconciliation Between Conflicted Nations" following the release of his book "And They Shall Beat Their Swords". He was invited by the Triangle and Sharon Circle of the "Standing Together" movement.
After providing a brief overview of his book's content, he shifted the discussion to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the question of whether reconciliation is possible. He emphasized the importance of each side viewing the other with equality and reciprocity, noting that Israelis often approach Palestinians with arrogance.
He stated:
"It is essential to eliminate the sense of superiority or inferiority that accompanies negotiations."
"We need an Israeli leader who is not afraid to say that Palestinians are human beings too!"
Liel called for a public campaign, "Free Barghouthi", to demand the immediate release of Marwan Barghouti from prison (regardless of any potential deal) and to begin negotiations with him for a historic peace agreement.
