Trump's ideas are causing immense damage to the Israeli psyche. An entire nation has entered a state of euphoric enthusiasm over Trump's insane idea. Ethnic cleansing has infiltrated the heart of the Israeli mainstream. Ben Gvir's ideas are undergoing complete normalization. The media is overwhelmed with excitement, most of its analysts are in shock, and suddenly, another Nakba seems like a great idea. The Zionist parties are embracing this notion. Even the Zionist left, if it has reservations, does not object for moral reasons—such as opposing ethnic cleansing or another Nakba—but rather debates how practical and feasible it is.
The damage to the Israeli psyche is enormous; it reveals its hidden desires—the deep longing for the disappearance of the Palestinians. Trump has become a false messiah, a litmus test for the desires of those who have suffered displacement from their own land and now support the expulsion of another people. The "Chosen People" now seek the disappearance of the Palestinian people, whom they see as inferior. It chokes the throat, darkens our lives.
On the day of the horrific massacre of October 7, when people were brutally murdered in the Gaza Envelope, it was not only human lives that were taken—Israel’s soul was also murdered and abducted into dark tunnels, with no light of hope at their end. When we emerge from these tunnels, we will need to rehabilitate the collective psyche and rebuild the relationship between Jews and Arabs—between Jews in Israel and the Palestinian people, both Israeli citizens and those living in the space between the river and the sea.
