Senior Hamas officials do not really understand the significance of October 7 for Israel, and they are sure that at the end of another round they will emerge from the underground as winners. This is the impression of Gershon Baskin, one of the architects of the Shalit deal and one of the Israelis who knows Hamas well. He does not regret his part in that deal, but thinks that this time an "all for all" deal is unrealistic for the State of Israel.
